Default view: Normally, gPodder looks like this

Medium view: Note the hidden (downloaded/unplayed) graphics

Small view: If you make the podcast bar really small, the covers are hidden

Extended episode view: If you press the ESC key, the podcast list is hidden and episode details are displayed

New episodes are available - gPodder lets you choose which ones to download

The new, simplified preferences dialog to hide/show the status bar icon; you can edit all options by clicking on "advanced"

You can import OPML feeds from the web and directly add them to gPodder

The "Add new podcast" dialog, allowing to subscribe to a new show via its URL

This is the downloads tab where gPodder will list the progress of each episode and allow you to throttle the speed and queue episodes

Even the episode menu (when you tap one or more episodes) is finger-friendly :)

Updating episodes is now very unobtrusive via the new update progress bar (at the lower left corner of the window).
